RTM has never loved the Hummer. It's a useless piece of crap, as far as a civilian commercial product, which we've said before. The brand has been struggling for a long time, as has Hummer parent, GM. Despite a possible selling of the brand or even scrapping it entirely, there is a new place where Hummers are finding a home: Iraq. Apparently they love Hummers, at least those looking for an obnoxious status and power symbol to declare their status and power. And this at a time when "Iraqis are paying historically high prices for gasoline."
Aren't their enough military Humvees in Iraq that a rise in civilian Hummers would be unpopular. Who knows. But the NYTimes puts a positive spin on it nobody can deny. "It beats being obsessed with, say, car bombs."
