Usually, when someone in politics says something that is kind of ridiculous or over the top, they come down and temper their words. And then there is Michelle Bachmann. She recently called for Minnesotans to get "armed and dangerous" in order to "fight hard" so "we don't lose our country." This was in regards to Obama's new energy tax plan. It seems like a pretty clear overreaction. So how did Bachmann follow it up?
With an appearance on Sean Hannity's show, spouting off about Marxism (something I have recently learned should be avoided on blogs...but what can I say, I like quite a bit of Marx).
"We are headed down the lane of economic Marxism," said Bachmann. "More quickly, Sean, than anyone could have possibly imagined. It's difficult for us to even keep up with it day to day...We are at the point, Sean, of revolution. And by that, what I mean, an orderly revolution -- where the people of this country wake up get up and make a decision that this is not going to happen on their watch."
Honestly, I'm not quite sure what "it" is, I guess 'economic Marxism.'
Anyway. It got worse: "Economics works equally in any country. Where freedom is tried, the people rejoice. But where tyranny is enforced upon the people, as Barack Obama is doing, the people suffer and mourn." Obama is tyrant? Freedom equals economic success? What the fuck are you talking about? But it just...keeps...going...
"This is our very freedom, and we have 230 years, a continuous link of freedom that every generation has ceded to the next generation. This may be the time when that link breaks. And I'm going to do everything I can, I know you are, to make sure that we keep that link secure. We cannot allow that link to break, because as Reagan said, America is the last great hope of mankind...Do we get into an inner tube and float 90 miles to some free country? There is no free country for us to repair to. That's why it's up to us now."
So...Obama is the greatest threat to American Freedom in the past 230 years?
I don't mean to harp on Ms. Bachmann, but I just can't believe her. It makes me very sad that of all the districts in all the states of all 435 members of congress, I live in Michelle Bachman's.
