A year ago, RTM posted on the conservative, climate skeptic organization Heartland Institute, and their oil company sponsored Conference. Last year's theme was "Global Warming is not a crisis." This years? "Global Warming: Was it ever really a Crisis?" That is a brilliant title. Not only does it imply that Global Warming as a crisis is over, but begs the question that it never needed be a crisis in the first place.
There is not much here to say. Climate skeptics have every right to get together and discuss their views. But there are a few notes I'd like to point out here.
The keynote speaker at this years conference is Vaclav Klaus, the president of Czech Republic. Klaus "believes that efforts to protect the world from the impact of climate change are an assault on freedom...believes that efforts to protect the world from the impact of climate change are an assault on freedom."
The other interesting note is that, apparently, Exxon Mobil no longer is pouring their money into this conference or the Heartland Institute. "Large corporations like Exxon Mobil, which in the past financed the Heartland Institute and other groups that challenged the climate consensus, have reduced support. Many such companies no longer dispute that the greenhouse gases produced by burning fossil fuels pose risks."
